Luxembourg ranks 14th in World Bank-PwC "Paying Taxes" report

In a joint report published by the World Bank and PriceWaterhouse Coopers, entitled Paying Taxes 2009, Luxembourg ranked 14th out of 181 countries (and third in Europe behind Ireland and Denmark) for ease of paying taxes. The study assesses the ease of paying taxes as part of a broader analysis of regulations relevant to domestic, small- to medium-sized companies. The aim of the project, known as Doing Business, is to provide an objective basis for improving the regulatory environment for business. The report also revealed that a large number of countries had reformed their tax laws to make payment easier and collection more efficient.  Paying Taxes 2009 gives policymakers the ability to measure tax regulation performance in comparison to other countries, learn from global best practices, and prioritise reforms.  The report also ranks Luxembourg as having the lowest Total Tax Rate for businesses in the European Union.
